Elisabeth Niejahr

Elisabeth Niejahr was a member of the NUP Sounding Board at the Progressive Center. Since January 2020, she has been Managing Director for “Strengthening Democracy” at the Hertie Foundation. She has written several books on demography and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and is a regular guest on German political talk shows. After studying economics in Cologne, London and Washington and attending the Cologne School of Journalism, she began her journalistic career in the Bonn parliamentary office of the news magazine “Der Spiegel”. From 1999, she worked for the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” for 18 years, including as deputy head of the Berlin office. From 2017 to 2019, she was chief correspondent in the Berlin office of the news magazine “Wirtschaftswoche”.
