Wolfgang Merkel is Director of the “Democracy and Democratization” research program at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and Professor of Political Science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He is a member of a number of key bodies, including the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Advisory Council of „Das Progressive Zentrum“.
