Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski, backed by Donald Tusk&#8217;s liberal-conservative Civic Platform (PO), has now been defeated by the PiS-backed candidate Karol Nawrocki.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This election was widely regarded as the definitive test of Tusks\u2019s commitment to restoring democratic norms and practices. Although the 2023 parliamentary shift ousted PiS from government, the party\u2019s influence persists through President Andrzej Duda, who has systematically obstructed key judicial and media reforms. Rather than bridging divides, <strong>the political landscape has grown more polarised<\/strong>, with a pronounced rightward drift sidelining progressive voices. Karol Nawrocki&#8217;s victory raises fears of further entrenchment of this stalemate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poland plays a critical role in Europe\u2019s defence and security architecture, particularly amid Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.&nbsp;The election\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>outcome will not only shape Poland\u2019s domestic trajectory but also reverberate across the EU and NATO<\/strong>, influencing everything from rule-of-law reforms to military cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What key themes dominated the campaign, and how did they reflect Poland\u2019s political divide?\u00a0Which issues proved most decisive in swaying voters, and\u00a0<strong>what strategies did each side use to mobilize\u00a0<\/strong>their base?\u00a0And looking ahead: What will be Poland\u2019s domestic and foreign policy priorities under its new leadership\u2014and how might this reshape its role in Europe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will discuss these and other questions with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Marcin Duma<\/strong>, CEO, IBRIS Institute for Social and Market Research, Warsaw<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Paul Hilder<\/strong>, Pollster, Strategist and Campaign Adviser to Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Further,&nbsp;<strong>Max Br\u00e4ndle<\/strong>, Director Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Warsaw, will share his views on how the election outcome could reshape Poland&#8217;s position within the European landscape and the Weimar Triangula.
