Strategist Hour Special Edition: Mark Carney wins Canadian Election

Mark Carney and the Canadian Liberal Party won a decisive victory on April 28, marking the fourth consecutive win for the Liberal Party and a resounding mandate from the Canadian public for people-first progressive leadership. The election, called shortly after Carney assumed office in March, was defined by U.S. President Trump’s hostile attacks against Canada and Mark Carney’s steady leadership in response. Mark Carney’s expertise, experience, and economic focus were crucial to Liberal success across the country, and a sign of Canada’s leadership around the world.  Long time Global Progress Action’s partners Tom Pitfield and Braeden Caley played decisive roles in the campaign and now in PM Carney’s office. They will give us the behind the scenes look at the work that made the last two months successful and share their vision for what lays ahead from a political and policy perspective.

• Tom Pitfield is the PM Principal Secretary and was the Chief Strategist for the Liberals in the 2025 national election. Tom previously served as the Founder and CEO of Data Sciences, and he is a Co-Founder of Canada 2020. He was as the Chief Digital Strategist for PM Trudeau federal election campaigns, as well on Trudeau’s campaign for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.  

• Braeden Caley is the PM Deputy Chief of Staff and ran Carney’s leadership campaign for the Liberal Party. He is the previous President and CEO of Canada 2020. He served as the Senior Director for Communications for the Liberal Party and in key roles in Justin Trudeau’s federal elections campaigns. Braden has for over seventeen years advised leaders in government and campaigns.
