The European Parliament elections in June started a new legislative cycle for the European Union. The elections kicked off the Union’s institutional reset, which is currently unfolding with the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen and the presentation of a new Commission college. Political priorities have been set and now need to be implemented. It is time to reflect on this major democratic event at the European level and look to the path forward. This half-day conference will bring together experts and practitioners, to analyse the election campaigns and results in France, Germany, Italy and Poland and what we can learn from them. In the wake of the surge of the far right and anti-transformation tendencies, this event will also discuss strategies to increase the importance of the EU elections and strengthen the democratic, unifying and forward-facing foundation of the EU itself. The conference will present and discuss the final report of the project “More diverse than united? The European Parliament Election Project – A comparative analysis of the EU elections 2024”, co-lead by the European Policy Centre (EPC) and Das Progressive Zentrum (DPZ) with the support of Open Society Foundations. |
