Friedrich Opitz

Friedrich W. Opitz has been a Project Assistant at Das Progressive Zentrum until October 2020, with a focus on structural change. He’s a senior graduate student at Dresden University’s School of International Studies and Sciences Po Strasbourg. He focuses on Comparative Global Political Economy and the interplay of Postindustrialism and Rightwing Populism. Correspondingly, Friedrich set out to explore the former ‘American Industrial Heartland’, Central Germany, and the French Alsace. With a background in American Studies and Journalism from Leipzig University and Ohio University, he further commits to regional exchange projects via organizing platforms like the Transatlantic Student Summit, embracing perspectives from the global to the local—and vice versa. Previously, Friedrich worked in diplomatic missions, a think tank on Hawaii, and for a radio station.
