Zukunft der Demokratie

Democracy Lab Final Report 2017/18

The Democracy Lab has developed into a platform for thinkers and doers on the future of democracy. This final report looks back at the projects, publications and events that have shaped the past 1,5 years within the Lab.

After launching the Democracy Lab in April 2017, the final report looks back at our projects, publications and events that shaped this newly created platform for democratic innovation within Das Progressive Zentrum and which evolved into a place for thinkers and doers to gather, network and think about new ideas for politics and civil society.

Looking back at 20 months of work within the Democracy Lab, we’re happy to share the final report 2017/2018 to present to you our flagship projects, highlights and publications, with the objective of building an open platform for democratic innovations based on three pillars: Mental models, structures and processes, and looking how we can find policy solutions to the most pressing challenges our representative democracies face.

The projects in 2017 and 2018 had a strong focus on representation and citizen participation as well as inclusion and mobilisation of young people in the political process. The Democracy Lab also researched and discussed topics such as the future of political parties, their relationships to civil society and the cooperation between parliaments in Europe. New formats such as a “Learning Journey”,the “Challenging Democracy” series and “Democratic Innovation Dinners” gave people the opportunity to better understand how to shape democracy in their daily lives. The annual highlights of the Democracy Lab were the “Innocracy Conferences”. The first conference took place in November 2017 and the second one in June 2018. We are pleased to announce that a third Innocracy will take place in 2019.
